About Us

In 2008 Asian Artworks Gallery celebrated its 10th anniversary in The Repulse Bay (the  wonderful old Repulse Bay Hotel).

The raison d’etre of the business is to support & source from small, exclusive suppliers, craftspeople, artists & collectors in Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and China. Many can only supply extremely small quantities as everything is meticulously hand-crafted. All share a passion for exquisite, unique and quality pieces.

Many are  Unesco-awarded such as our Textile designers: Carol Cassidy (Laos Textiles), Isaan, Chabatik  &  Lea Silk.

Who we are…

Asian Artworks is a small family business located in Hong Kong. In 1995, two cousins began importing quality antique furniture and furnishings from Bali for a few close friends. We still keep the same quality and craftmanship that drove us originally, so you can be sure to be buying only the best South East Asia has to offer.

Our philosophy…

We never buy from multinationals. All of our products are antiques or handcrafted by individuals and small groups. We especially try to support craftswomen, cottage and traditional industries.

We buy from all over Asia including Burma, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. We aim to support local artists and designers. We want to promote traditional skills and techniques that are being lost due to globalisation, industralisation and poverty.

  1. Clare Smith says:

Your store and your philosophy sound so much like Aid to Artisans that I thought you might like to know ATA and I’m sure ATA would like to know about you. I am no longer at ATA, having recently retired after many years as president, but, not surprisingly, still deeply interested in the many artisans I’ve come to know over the years. Best wishes, with admiration…Clare Smith

Thanks so much for your comment, Claire. Great to know that there is a small proportion of us! I’ll get in touch with ATA – do they have a website?
